About Us

In response to a program about Dexters in 1988, Trish Cabassi started the wheels in motion and formed Billabong Dexter Stud in 1989 with her parents Peter and Joan Willis, stud Limousin Cattle Breeders.  They were instrumental in importing Dexter semen and one of the first three purebred Dexter females to be re-introduced into Western Australia in 1991.

Billabong imported several other Purebred Dexter Cattle from North America and utilized artificial insemination and embryo transfer to ensure a constant improvement and were mindful of the need for utilizing outcross bloodlines.

Trish and Mike Cabassi have 3 young boys who have all been introduced to the “Wonderful World of Dexters” and love it!  Due to their size, Dexters are less intimidating than larger breeds, particularly for children.  They have been utilised by various youngsters to learn leading techniques in the show ring.   Billabong have introduced many youngsters into the show ring with Dexters and many have gone on to achieve fantastic results.  They still enjoy visiting and working with the cattle, which is a healthy interest for them.

Billabong Stud is located approximately 45kms south of Perth CBD and easily accessible via Freeway, Newly developed section of Tonkin Highway or South West Highway.  Trish and Mike Cabassi enjoy people visiting their farm and their Dexters.
