Once again we attended the WA Youth Cattle Handlers Camp and Alex was the only Cabassi participant due to football committments. Trish was involved once again in the organization, instruction and leadership, amongst many other committed cattle industry individuals whilst Mick attended to farm and football duties.
This year we supplied 4 Dexter Heifers, 2 Dexter Steers and 2 Limousin Heifers for the use of participants significantly less than 20 supplied last year. The participants who were responsible for the Dexters found them easy to handle and a pleasure to work with.
|
|
There were 79 participants, an increase of 12 participants in 2007, who attended the camp which was held on 25, 26 & 27th April 2008.
When leaving, many of the students asked us if we were showing at other major events and offered assistance. Over the few days there was a bond formed between students and cattle as they were solely responsible for their care and preparation.
If you or know anyone who you think may be interested in attending next years camp can you please forward their names and contact details to Alice Bowen, 131 Joel Terrace, Mt Lawley WA 6050 or email bowejoel@iinet.net.au and she will forward all the necessary forms. |

The 2008 WA Breed Show was held in conjunction with the National Dexter Cattle AGM at Swan View Agricultural Show. The event provided many visitors from Eastern States a great display of quality Dexter cattle. Billabong had a terrific day with Billabong Captain winning Junior Champion and Grand Champion Bull. This success was overshadowed by Billabong Xanadu who won Senior Champion Female, Grand Champion Female, Supreme Exhibit and Interbreed Champion |

First Calver Betty Boop, held her own to win Reserve Senior Champion Cow. We were very proud, as were her breeders Ian and Pauline Manly from Queensland, when recent arrival to Billabong, Bircham Maid Marion won Champion Junior Heifer over a large number of young females exhibited. Billabong also won the Progeny Group with Billabong Zorba calves, the same group as the Royal and Exhibitors Group. To top off the day Alex Cabassi won Champion Junior Handler making it two years in a row. All the juniors were terrific and it was a very close contest. |
